Community Events: The Salvation Army Christmas Bazaar

Tags:

The Salvation Army Christmas Bazaar of second hand goods will be held on Saturday, December 10th from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Bring an item to donate or simply bring some money to spend to support The Salvation Army.

There will be clothing, household items, electrical goods, and much more at ridiculously low prices --- and of course everything you donate or spend will help The Salvation Army's work in Taiwan.

The bazaar will be held at The Salvation Army, No. 1, Lane 208, Si Wei Road, Da-an District, Taipei 106.

Indigenous People's Christmas Clothing Drive

The Community Services Center is joining in with the Atayal Foundation, the TVFD (Taipei Volunteer Fire Department) and The English Library on a clothing, toy and computer drive for the Indigenous People in Taiwan. The project will be ongoing but we hope to put together a donation for Christmas in Wulai.

Your donation would be greatly appreciated. Donation items of children's clothing, toys and computers can be new or used ones. You can drop your donations off at the Center office before Friday, Dec. 16.

Center Running Team: Inspiration is infectious!

Last year, Rakesh Sinha ran his first ever marathon and raised NT$265,000 for the Community Services Center. But it didn't stop there. He inadvertently inspired an entire team of people to run alongside him, some of whom had not really run long distance before. Amanda Metti is one of these people. Below is an interview with Amanda who is training to run the half-marathon (21km) at the end of the year for the Fubon Taipei Marathon Event.

So, Amanda - what was it that inspired you to start running?

Center News: Steve Parker - Barista Extraordinaire

Tags:

Last year it was “Steven Parker: Chauffeur” lending his services to help Rich Smith make his wife’s birthday one to remember. This year he re-invented himself as Barista Extraordinaire. Rich told his wife, Lucia, that they would be going out for a surprise breakfast outside but when she arrived in the lobby she was met by eight of her friends. Together they returned to the house to feast on lattes brewed by the Barista Extraordinaire and a variety of home-baked goods all prepared by the Center. A fantastic time was had by everyone.

In 1997, the Kinkaseki / Taiwan Prisoner of War Memorial at Jinguashi was built and dedicated, and every year since then a Remembrance Day service has been held on the site of the old POW camp.
