Community Events: Remembrance Weekend
From August 1942 until September 1945 more than 4,350 Allied prisoners of war were held in 16 POW camps on the island of Taiwan. In 1997, the Kinkaseki / Taiwan Prisoner of War Memorial at Jinguashi was built and dedicated, and every year since then a Remembrance Day service has been held on the site of the old POW camp. This year the Taiwan POW Camps Memorial Society and the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei are co-sponsoring Remembrance Weekend Friday, November 11 - Sunday, November 13. Remembrance Weekend will include three events: The dedication of the new Taihoku Camp 6 POW Memorial on Friday, November 11 at 2 pm, the annual POW banquet on Saturday, November 12 at 6:30 pm, and the dedication of the new memorials in the POW Park and the Remembrance Day Service on Sunday, November 13 beginning at 10 am.
Reservations for all events can be made by contacting:
