Come celebrate International Women’s Day at the Center’s Spring Bazaar and Luncheon on Thursday, March 8 from 11am to 3:30pm at the Regent, Taipei!

Proceeds from this year’s bazaar will be donated to the Taipei Women’s Rescue Foundation, an organization that offers services to women and children affected by domestic violence and human trafficking.

February's Tastes of Taipei at Tajin a Delicious Success

Warmest thanks to Sandy Wu and Hicham Samh at Tajin Moroccan Restaurant for making the February Tastes of Taipei a delicious success! On February 9, restaurant-goers were treated to a delectable assortment of Moroccan fare. From the moment the first course -- a shrimp on flatbread appetizer -- arrived, the food did not stop coming. A trio of salads -- zaalouk, charmoula, and Moroccan salads -- and lentil soup followed.

On February 9, the Center and the American Institute in Taipei (AIT) co-hosted a U.S. election-themed Special Topic Coffee Morning. Coffee Morning-goers were treated to American snacks including Rice Krispie treats, American-style coffee cake, and caramel corn while AIT's Matt Taylor explained the absentee voting process for U.S. citizens living abroad. Mr. Taylor also generously presented the Center with posters and a Voter's Assistance Guide. The morning ended with an educational and amusing round of U.S. presidential trivia.

Community Announcement: New Immigration e-Gates for Taiwanese Citizens

The National Immigration Agency (NIA) has just made immigration clearance a little easier for Taiwanese citizens. Beginning in January, new e-gates are in use at three airports (Taoyuan County, Taipei, and Kaohsiung) and one seaport (Kinmen) to expedite immigration clearance and improve border security. Any Taiwanese citizen who is 14 years of age or older, holds a valid passport, and has registered biometric data can now breeze through immigration in about 12 seconds thanks to e-gates that are equipped with infrared ray sensors, facial recognition cameras, and passport readers.

Also, for those wanting to vote in the upcoming US elections, Matt Taylor from AIT will talk briefly about absentee voting.

Mark your calendars for February's Tastes of Taipei on February 9th!

This month we are headed to Morocco–or, more accurately, to Tajin, Taipei’s own little slice of North Africa, tucked away in an alley of the Daan neighborhood. Stylishly adorned with Moroccan tajines, the restaurant specializes in–you guessed it–tajin, the famed North African slow-cooked stew that is named for the earthenware pot in which it is simmered.

Member of the Center's Running Team Mike DeNoma Will Compete in Brazilian Ultra Marathon to Raise Funds for Taiwanese Charity

On January 20, ultra marathoner Mike DeNoma, a member of the Center's Running Team and a recent competitor in the Fubon Marathon, is taking to the trails of Brazil’s Mantiqueira Mountains where he will compete in a grueling two-day, 135-mile race.
