Ivy takes us back to basics when it comes to Chinese/Taiwanese cuisine--using one of the most widely consumed ingredients of all, rice. In this class she will prepare a steamed rice dumpling or cai bao, filled with pork and cabbage. This dumpling originates in Ivy's home town of Tainan and was traditionally eaten during the winter solstice period. She will then share her secrets for preparing the perfect Shrimp Fried Rice. Fried rice is one of those dishes when properly done is easy and delicious, but can also turn into a big mess in a pan if done incorrectly. To finish off our rice meal, Ivy will teach us how to make tang yuan or Sticky Rice with Peanuts for dessert. Not only will you be ready to celebrate the winter solstice, you will also have something to prepare for the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year.
