In this class Ivy introduces you to two types of Taiwanese-style steamed buns. The first, a local hand-held favorite, is the Taiwanese hamburger or gua bao. Served in a fluffy cut bun, gua bao is traditionally filled with pork belly, mustard greens, ground peanuts and cilantro, but Ivy likes to serve hers with a variety of fillings and will prepare a selection suitable for meat eaters and vegetarians alike. Our second delicious bun is called shuǐ jiān bāo, directly translated as "water fried buns," which are fried and steamed just like guōtiē or potstickers. Ivy will fill these delicious treats with cabbage, glass noodles and shitake mushrooms. This is one cooking class not to miss--your friends and family will love you for it!
