The Culture of Tea: A Hands-On Tea Brewing Class

Drinking tea in Taiwan goes beyond just quenching one’s thirst. It is also a social and cultural activity, which can be traced back to ancient China and is embedded into the culture of the country. For the Taiwanese, tea culture includes tea production, tea arts and wares, traditional tea ceremonies and the social aspects of consuming tea. In this hands-on class Yasuko will demonstrate the proper way to prepare tea and then each participant will be able to brew their own two different types of Taiwan tea: Alpine Oolong (Four Seasons Spring Flower Oolong) and Honey-flavored Black Tea. You will learn the correct amount of tea to use, the best type of tea pot (yes, this does affect the taste of your tea), and how long to let your tea steep to make that perfect cup of Taiwan tea. Some light tea snacks to enhance your enjoyment of these teas will also be served.
