Following a presentation on the Taiwanese language in May 2020, Günter Whittome will now go one step further and offer an introductory Taiwanese course in four, two-hour sessions. The aim is not only to provide you with an understanding of the nature and present day status of the language or its relationship to Mandarin, but also with the basics of its tonal system and pronunciation. This will involve practical exercises with words and phrases that you can use in everyday life. Locals will be surprised and delighted hearing Taiwanese from you, especially those many Taiwanese for whom it is their “real” mother tongue. It will help you “break the ice."
Class meets on April 21, 28; May 5 and 19. There is no class on May 12.
