The Beitou Museum: A Special Textile Exhibition Tour and Hands-on Embroidery Workshop

NEWLY ADDED!! SPECIAL EXHIBITION TOUR AT THE BEITOU MUSEUM

This day begins with an English-guided tour of the textile exhibit currently at the Beitou Museum, titled “Stories Told Through Mother’s Hands,” a collection of century-old, handcrafted children’s hats, bibs, clothing, shoes, and baby carriers from Taiwan, China, and southeast Asia.  We are luckly to have Brenda Lin as our guide for this exhibition, as the collection belongs to her mother. The exhibit will also showcase two contemporary artists – digital artist, Fumi Furuta, and the design team at les enphants – who have taken inspiration from the collection and created modern expressions of mothers’ love.

The tour will be followed by a hands-on embroidery workshop, under the guidance of handicraft artist, Kara Wall.  In the context of our modern lifestyle, we so rarely have the opportunity to slow down and work with our hands.  This is the perfect opportunity and setting for a day of slowness and meditation through the art of embroidery. Any level of stitching experience is welcome to celebrate the beauty in simple stitches with us. All materials included.

For those who would like to stay on and savor the ambience of the Museum’s Tea House an optional set lunch is available at an additional cost.

Instructor: Brenda Lin and Kara Wall
