Lantern Festival marks the end of the Chinese Lunar New Year celebration. Visit the very old and atmospheric Longshan Temple where you will not only learn about its history but also be able to view colorful lanterns made for this auspicious occasion. The temple was built in 1738 during the Qing dynasty in honor of Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy. Unlike other temples in Taiwan, Longshan Temple hosts deities from a mixture of Taoist, Buddhist, and Confucian faiths. Located in the old Wanhua District of Taipei, there are many traditional old streets, antique shops, and Chinese medicine shops surrounding temple making the area great to visit due to its richness in folk art. Included in this tour is a visit to the nearby Wanhua Herb Alley and the Bopiliao Historic Block. Wear comfortable walking shoes!
