This moderately strenuous hike starts off nice and easy on a well-maintained path that is fairly flat. We will follow this path until we come to some steps (less than 100) that will lead us up to a small temple and off-the-beaten path trail that follows a stream. This trail will lead us up to a mountain road where we will continue our walk to enjoy some lovely views of Yangmingshan and the National Palace Museum. We will pass old tombs on this road before finding a well-used concrete path leading us back into a lovely forest. We will stop at the popular Laodifang Lookout for the first of many beautiful views of Neihu and Dazhi before continuing on to Jiantan Mountain, where our walk will be mostly along flat stone pathways. We will take our time and explore the mountain before coming down about 200 well-used stone steps that are not very steep or slippery. We will end our hike at the nearby Jiantan MRT station. Our total trip is close to 6km.
