From the Jiantan MRT Station we will travel by public bus to Erziping, in Yangmingshan National Park. From there we will follow a small dirt trail through a bamboo forest. It is quite steep, but you can hold on to the bamboo as we climb our way up to Mt. Xiao Guanyin. The mountain peaks in this area surround the biggest crater in Yangmingshan, created by a long-ago volcanic eruption. The area is now covered in grass that looks likes waves when the wind blows. The view from the top of the mountain is spectacular. Far in the distance we will see mountain ridges and even the coast of Jinshan on a clear day. If we have the time and energy, we will walk along one of the ridges to see two smaller peaks. We will retrace our steps, with a slightly different route at the end. Be aware that the trail could be very muddy after some rain. It is not dangerous, but you may get dirty. For a strong hiker, this would be considered a moderate hike, but a more challenging one for a beginner. The hike is about 5.8km with 269m ascending.
