This moderately strenuous hike starts at the Jiantan MRT Station and is the reverse trip of a hike Jennifer led earlier this spring. We head up the mountain via about 200 well-used stone steps that are not very steep or slippery. We will explore Jiantan Mountain then head towards Jiannan Mountain where the first part of our walk will be mostly along flat stone pathways. Along the way there are many beautiful views of Neihu and Dazhi, and we will stop at Laodifang Lookout. From there we will walk along a well-used concrete path through the forest and find ourselves on a mountain road passing old tombs. From this road we will enjoy some lovely views of the National Palace Museum and Yangmingshan. We will then take an off-the beaten path trail that follows a stream, passing a small temple. From the temple, we will head down some steps (less than 100) to a fairly flat, well-maintained path for an easy walk to the Jiannan MRT Station where this hike will end. Our trip is close to 6km. Please wear sturdy hiking shoes (a hat is also recommended). Bring plenty of water, snacks, and sun/rain/insect protection as needed.
