Evening Hike to Elephant Mountain

Join Dory for an evening hike to Elephant Mountain for some amazing Taipei City views. This hike is moderately strenuous for novice hikers but an easy one for our tried and true crew. There are many steps, so please take this into account. There are three parts to this hike. From the MRT to the trail head is about 1.1K with 72M ascending. This is where we take the stairs up to Elephant Mountain where we will enjoy the beautiful day view. It is about 1.1 KM with 127M ascending. We will take many breaks and go slowly here. From the peak we will pass a place where you can see the tunnel of the No. 3 highway and then an area with Guanyin and the 18 Luohan sculptures. We will follow the Lion Mountain trail and visit Tianbaoshengdao Temple. The temple has a big Wujilaojun sculpture on a wall. From the temple we will walk through the Giant Rocks Trail to the Yongchungang platform and then to the Six Rocks lookout to enjoy the night view. This is another 1.58K with some little ups and downs. We will head back down to the MRT, arriving about 8:00pm. The final part is about 1.3K with 136M descending. The total distance of this hike is about 5.2KM. Please wear proper hiking shoes; bring water, snacks and insect repellent.
