This month’s cover selection was taken by Justine O’Neil
shortly after Typhoon Soudelor swept through northern
Taiwan leaving mass destruction in its wake. Thousands
of trees were uprooted, especially in the Tianmu expatriate neighborhood
Typhoon Soudelor has been listed as the most destructive
storm of the 21st century to hit the northern hemisphere.
On August 8, 2015, it slammed into Taiwan full force with
devastating winds and torrential rain resulting in massive
flash floods, mud slides, destruction, power shortages, leaving
a record 4.8 million people without electricity. Northern and eastern
Taiwan were hit the hardest by the eye of the storm.
